Summary:
The Engineering Technician lll will independently determine and perform operations required to calibrate and certify complex electronic and/or physical/dimensional test equipment, maintaining traceability to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), or by reference to natural constants.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Assesses and utilizes calibration methods and techniques based on principles of measurement science, technical analysis of measurement problems, and accuracy requirements.
Analyzes magnitude of error sources contributing to uncertainty of results and/or test accuracy ratios to determine reliability of measurement process in quantitative terms.
Recommend substitution of standards or measuring equipment if required, diagnose and repair malfunctions in complex measuring and test equipment using theories of operation, block diagrams, and schematics.
Provide training to journeyman technicians on metrology principles, electronic theory, and quality control plans.

Required Skills
Qualifications - Experience, Education and Licensure:
Required:
Using automatic calibration systems.
Laboratory Certification to ISO/IEC 17025:2005 or NAVSEA 04-4734.
Maintain a Quality Manual that meets ISO/IEC 17025:2005 or NAVSEA 04-4734.
Calibrating Navy test, measurement and diagnostic equipment (TMDE).
Writing Navy calibration procedures.
Electronic or physical/dimensional calibration principles and calibration traceability.
Troubleshooting and repair techniques.
Metrology laboratory practices and calibration data collection.
Preparing CPRs, calibration reports and/or certificates.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Associate or higher degree.
6- 8 weeks of PMEL School.
6- 8 weeks Original Equipment Manufacturer provided training or 4 years electronic and/or mechanical experience in the calibration and repair of Navy precision instrumentation.
Experience shall include troubleshooting, repairing, aligning, calibrating, and certifying TMDE.

Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for bending, stooping, sitting, walking or standing for prolonged periods of time; most of time is spent sitting in a comfortable position with frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift moderately light items up to 35 pounds. Near visual acuity to review written documentation; ability to hear and understand speech at normal room levels and on the telephone; manual dexterity to operate a telephone and keyboard; lift horizontally and vertically.

Job is performed in an office setting with exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, mouse and multi-line telephone system.

As a condition of employment, must pass a pre-employment drug screening, as well as have acceptable reference and background check results. Only US citizens are eligible for a security clearance. Must have or be eligible for security clearances.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
