Principal Radar Engineer

Education: REQUIRED:  Bachelor's, Masters, or Ph.D degree from an accredited college or university in one of the following fields of study: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineer, Electronics Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Physics. PREFERRED:  Masters or Ph.D degree from an a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum in one of the following fields: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineer, Electronics Engineering. Work Experience: Minimum 20 years if Candidate has a Bachelor's degree; or Minimum 15 years if Candidate has a Master's degree; or Minimum 10 years if Candidate has a Ph.D degree. Qualifications / Relevant Experience: Minimum of eight years of experience in complex radar system engineering, design, analysis, or radar software development; Minimum of two years of managerial/supervisory experience sufficient to ensure positive direction/oversight of subordinates; Solid technical background as demonstrated by certifiable experience formulating opinions, decisions and ultimate performance of the tasks specified in a contract statement of work; Demonstrated experience and ability to perform detailed and complex calculations and knowledge of practices/principles necessary to assess advanced radar systems concepts, assess specifications and perform system integration. MATLAB experience is highly desired. Description of Duties: Provide Systems Engineering Support to the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) Electromagnetic and Sensor Systems Department Radar Systems Division B40.  Opportunities include requirements development, software verification, system integration support, antenna design, radar performance testing and analyses, signal processing, and radar operations support.  Specific NSWCDD programs and tasks include: Dual-Band Radar Radar System Engineering:  recommend, review and approve design changes to assist NSWCDD in the verification of system functionality.  Support integration of NSWC radar systems and subsystems. Radar Certification Support:  Collect and maintain the databases required to support Mission Readiness Assessments (MRA), interim assessments and final certification. Support Combat System certification and authorization events.  Radar System & Software Verification:  Conduct analyses on collected test data from multiple NSWC systems supporting verification testing and recommend solutions for newly uncovered issues. Software Support Activities:  Execute the acquisition plan to provide post certification Software Support Activity (SSA) functionality by the government, and onsite government support to the Combined Software Delivery 6 (CSD) testing at Wallops Island Engineering Test Center (WIETC).  Ship Test Engineering Support:  Provide on-site RF engineering support for testing on the Self Defense Test Ship (SDTS), and support radar integration and test onboard DDG 1000. Enhanced Coherent Data Collection System (ECDCS) Provide shipboard and/or land based support as ECDCS subject matter expert both in-port and underway. Support ECDCS equipment installation/removal at ship sites and land based sites. Design and develop ECDCS hardware and firmware systems. Travel as needed to support ECDCS efforts, to include embarking on USN vessels. ODC Material Purchase items:  Small purchase procurements due to emergent unknown issues arising during the installs that require special tools and additional materials. Provide engineering support for the adaptation of the off-line external calibration analysis tool, Calibration Offline Analysis Tool (COAT), which is needed to process medium band (MB) data collected using ECDCS. This includes building a capability to read and format MB A/D data from the 10Gb ECDCS binary files for use by COAT. Provide analysis results on Radar I/Q data collected from ECDCS. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
